Offensive Outbursts Lifts Oakland Over Milwaukee, 89-56-- Box Score
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Nola Anderson and Olivia Nash each tallied 23 points to lead the Oakland women's basketball team (7-7, 1-0 HL) to a 89-56 win over Milwaukee (5-9, 1-1 HL) in its Horizon League opener on Saturday morning inside the Athletics Center O'rena. The Golden Grizzlies shot a season-high 55 percent from the field.

Anderson's 23 points is a career-high as she hit a career-best five 3-pointers, while Nash collected her third 20-point performance of the season. Sinclair Russell tallied just her second career double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds, both career-highs. Elena Popkey added 16 points on four 3-pointers to go along with eight assists.

Oakland outscored Milwaukee 50-30 in the second half as the Golden Grizzlies shot 63 percent (17-27) from the floor. Oakland opened the half scoring on its first five possessions to take an 18 point lead. Nash scored 18 points in the period on 7-of-10 shooting and Russell grabbed 10 rebounds. Read more

Hot Hand Leads Grizzlies To Win Over Panthers-- Box Score
ROCHESTER, Mich. - Oakland University shot a season-high 54.8 percent and got a career high 23 points from Nola Anderson to lead the way to an 89-56 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's basketball team Saturday at the O'rena.

"A lot of credit goes to Oakland. They come in fresh, they came in well-prepared and they took it at us," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Rechlicz said. "They played really, really tough and if you want to be one of the top teams in the league, it's that toughness – that mentality – that you have to play with."

The Panthers (5-9, 1-1 Horizon League) led the Golden Grizzles (7-7, 1-0 Horizon League) in the opening minutes but could not overcome a pair of first-half scoring runs and the hot shooting by Oakland. Read more

Women Dominate Second Half to Defeat Detroit-- Box Score
Down eight at the half, the Wright State women's basketball team dominated the second half, outscoring Detroit 49-22 to defeat the Titans 76-57 Saturday afternoon at WSU's Nutter Center.

Detroit scored the first five points of the contest and held the lead for most of the first half, with WSU's only advantage being 9-8 on a Tay'ler Mingo jumper with 14:11 remaining.  The Raiders closed to within three on another Mingo basket at the 2:50 mark, only to see the Titans close the period with an 8-3 run to go up 35-27 at the break.

Detroit shot 47 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including five of 11 from three-point range, while Wright State shot just 31 percent overall and was three of 14 from behind the arc. Read more

Crosby Nets 24 In Her Return As Titans Drop Road Contest At Wright State-- Box Score
DAYTON, Ohio (1/10/2015) -- Senior Ellisha Crosby had a team-high 24 points and the University of Detroit Mercy women's basketball team did its best to upset the defending Horizon League champions, but a strong second half by Wright State was too much in a 76-57 contest at the Nutter Center on Saturday.

Crosby – who missed the last four games with an injury – was 9-of-17 from the field with six rebounds and a pair of assists in tying her season high in scoring. Redshirt sophomore Rosanna Reynolds had 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds and sophomore Haleigh Ristovski tallied seven points and seven boards.

The Titans (5-10, 0-2 HL) – and Reynolds – set the tone early on scoring five-straight points right from the start, and after a three from WSU, Reynolds answered with a trey for an 8-3 lead. Read more

Lukan Sisters Lead Green Bay in Rout of Youngstown State-- Box Score
GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The offensive and defensive prowess of the Lukan sisters helped lead the Green Bay women’s basketball team past Youngstown State on Saturday afternoon at the Kress Center, running away with a 66-43 victory.

Green Bay (12-3, 2-0 HL) held the visiting Penguins (12-3, 1-1 HL) to a lowly 22.9 percent (11-48) shooting performance, the lowest percentage it has given up this season. YSU came into the game averaging 71. 6 points per game and 42.8 percent shooting, but the Phoenix team defense held its visitors to totals well below those season averages.

“Today we came with a lot of energy. Youngstown is really good. Tonight we proved we can compete at a high level and that we need to do that on a night in night out basis,” head coach Kevin Borseth said. Read more

Shooting Struggles Result in Loss at Green Bay for YSU-- Box Score
Green Bay, Wis. -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team had its worst shooting day in four seasons in a 66-43 loss to Green Bay on Saturday afternoon at the Kress Events Center.

The Penguins shot just 22.9 percent against the preseason favorites to win the Horizon League, and poor starts to both halves were especially damaging. The last time YSU had a worst shooting game was the season opener in 2011-12 at West Virginia, which was 108 games ago.

Green Bay improved to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while YSU dropped to 12-3 and 1-1. Read more

Women's Basketball Eases Past Valparaiso, 86-56-- Box Score
VALPARAISO, Ind. - The UIC women's basketball team (11-4, 1-1 HL) picked up its third straight win over Valparaiso (4-11, 0-2 HL) Saturday afternoon by an 86-56 score. The Flames held the Crusaders to 18 first half points and 34 percent shooting overall.

Valparaiso became the 11th UIC opponent to shoot less than 40 percent from the field and the ninth to score under 60 points. The Flames are 9-0 when allowing less than 60 points.

The Flames forced 19 Valparaiso turnovers and scored 22 points off the Crusaders’ miscues. UIC outrebounded Valpo 44-34, grabbed 21 offensive rebounds and scored 30 second-chance points. Read more

Campbell Leads Flames to Win over Valpo Women-- Box Score
Behind 30 second-chance points, the UIC Flames downed Valparaiso 86-56 Saturday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center.

Freshman Jasmyn Walker (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) starred again for the Crusaders to the tune of 19 points. Walker knocked down 6-of-10 attempts from the field and seven of her nine shots from the foul line.

The first ten minutes of the opening period were a defensive stalemate. The Flames clung to a 10-9 lead at the second media timeout. Read more
