INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has claimed the top seed in the 2009 Horizon League Women's Soccer Championship presented by U.S. Army.  The winner of the League's six-team tournament earns an automatic berth into the 64-team NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.

The Panthers finished League play with an unblemished 8-0-0 record and 10-5-3 overall mark, becoming the first team to win eight conference games since the inception of nine women’s soccer programs in the Horizon League. UWM ranks first in the League in every offensive team category, including 2.39 goals per contest.  Milwaukee will host semifinal and final games on Friday, Nov. 6, and Sunday, Nov. 8, and will play the lowest remaining quarterfinal squad at 8:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 6.

No. 2 Wright State ended its season 6-2-0 in League action, 11-6-2 overall, and awaits the highest remaining seed from the quarterfinals in a semi-final match at 6 p.m. ET on Nov. 6.  The Raiders earn their highest seed since the 1999 season when they held the top spot.  WSU ranks as the conference’s stingiest defense, allowing only 0.76 goals per game and posting nine overall shutouts this season.

Quarterfinal games will commence on Sunday, Nov. 1, when No. 6 Green Bay (4-10-3, 2-4-2) travels to No. 3 Valparaiso (9-8-1, 5-3-0) and No. 5 Butler (3-4-1, 7-11-1) journeys to No. 4 Loyola (4-2-2, 5-12-2).  Both games are scheduled to kickoff at 2 p.m. ET with the winners advancing to the semifinals at Engelmann Field.

In 2008, Milwaukee collected its first League championship since 2005, fifth overall, and freshman forward Sarah Hagen was named Most Valuable Player.
