INDIANAPOLIS – Ten student-athletes – five men and five women - have been named to the 2017 Horizon League Golf All-Academic Teams as announced by the Horizon League office today.

Jackson Frame of Northern Kentucky, Oakland’s Daniel Ault and Jacob Johnson, and Nick Seitz and Mitchell Wittmann of Valparaiso make up the men’s All-Academic Team. Sarah Montone of Detroit Mercy, Northern Kentucky’s trio of Sarah Kellam, Ryleigh Waltz and Macy Wright, and Maddelyn Zack of Oakland were named to the women’s All-Academic Team. The men’s All-Academic Team members boast a combined 3.92 grade point average, while the women’s All-Academic team sports a 3.88 composite GPA.

The men’s and women’s teams were voted on by the Horizon League Faculty Athletics Representatives from each of the conference’s 10 institutions.

To be eligible for All-Academic Team consideration, student-athletes must be starter of important reserve for their team, have completed at least 24 semester (or 36 quarter) hours at their institution and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2.

Horizon League Men’s Golf All-Academic Team Members
Frame has played in 23 of possible 26 rounds for NKU this year and finished tied for19th at the Wright State Invitational. He shot 71 in the second round of WSU’s tournament is tied for the eighth-lowest by a Norse this year.

Ault carded a third-round score of 72 at the CSU Invitational, his lowest round of the season, and has competed in 12 rounds during the 2017 season.

Johnson also was a 2014-15 All-Academic Team selection and finished the season third on the team in stroke average at 75.21 during the 2015-16 season. He has competed in all 23 rounds for the Golden Grizzlies this season.

Seitz is a two-time Horizon League All-Conference performer who as team captain helped the Crusaders to the highest team GPA in the country in 2015-16. He is a two-time academic all-league selection.

Wittman was a member of the 2016-17 Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and also helped the Crusaders compile the highest team GPA in the country in 2015-16.  He shot his best round of the season Sept. 20, when he carded a 69 (-1) at the Ram Masters Invitational.

Horizon League Women’s Golf All-Academic Team Members
Montone is a four-time member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and a three-time member of the Horizon League Honor Roll. The senior is a finalist for Detroit Mercy’s valedictorian honor and Co-President of Detroit Mercy SAAC. Montone has been in the starting line-up all season and is third on the squad with an 82.9 average.

Kellam is a double major in electronic media/broadcasting and communications and has played in every tournament for NKU as a countable scorer, with two top-10 finishes and 79.85 stroke per round average. She is a student intern in NKU’s Athletic Communications office and is a three-time WGCA Scholar All-American.

Waltz is NKU’s top golfer in terms of scoring average (78.54), top 10 (3) and top 5-finishes (1). The nursing major has participated in every tournament as a countable scorer, with 24 of 26 rounds being counted toward the team total. She is a three-time WGCA Scholar All-American.

Wright tied for fourth place in last year’s Horizon League Championship, earning all-tournament status.
She averages 80.62 strokes per round and was named a WGCA Scholar All-American as a freshman last year.

Zack has recorded four top-10 finishes for the Golden Grizzlies, placing fourth at the Fort Wayne Spring Classic shooting a career-low 227. She was a WGCA All-American Scholar Team selection in 2015-16. Zack carded a career-low round of 71 (E), tied for the fourth-lowest individual round in program history at Fort Wayne.
