INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State’s Jason van der Touw had a great 2017 season debut in the 200 freestyle on Saturday and has been named Horizon League Male Swimmer of the Week this week. IUPUI’s Olivia Treski won the 1000 yard freestyle in the Jaguars first dual meet of the season and has claimed the first 2017 Horizon League Female Swimmer of the Week title.
Green Bay sweeps the first of the 2017 Male and Female Divers of the Week honors. Michael Klemm won the 1-meter and the 3-meter on both Friday and Saturday in the Phoenix’s meet this weekend and has been selected as this week’s Horizon League Diver of the Week. Bailey Wagner also won the 1-meter and the 3-meter on Friday and Saturday and has been named the Horizon League Male Diver of the Week this week.

van der Touw dominated the sprint freestyle events as Cleveland State began its season at the Justin Jennings Memorial Invitational, as he won two individual events and also swam on a winning relay. van der Touw won the 200 freestyle in his first action Saturday, stopping the clock in a meet-record time of 1:41.51. He then led off the 400 freestyle relay, helping his quartet to a win in 3:11.09. He wasn’t done yet, as he then won the 100 freestyle in 47.01 seconds. van der Touw, who also finished fourth in the 50 freestyle, holds the fastest 200 free time in the League on the young season.

Treski got her 2017-18 campaign underway with two event wins against UIndy. In the women's 1000 yard freestyle, Treski won the event by more than five second with a time of 10:28.50. She also took gold in the women's 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:08.02.

Klemm opened his "last first meet" of his career by winning both the 1-meter and the 3-meter boards on both Friday and Saturday with scores that surpassed the NCAA Division 1 Zone qualifying marks. On Friday, he won the 1-meter with a score of 339.00, a new personal best, and the 3-meter with a score of 349.20. Both boards' scores on Friday were nearly 30 points ahead of the second place finishers.

Wagner also controlled both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards on both Friday and Saturday with scores that surpassed the NCAA Division 1 Zone qualifying marks. On Friday, she won the 1-meter with a score of 277.95, over 20 points ahead of second place, and the 3-meter with a score of 291.90, nearly 40 points ahead of second place. On Saturday, she was the most consistent diver over the two-day meet, comparatively. She earned 265.57 points on the 1-meter board and later earned 294.22 points on the 3-meter board, nearly 30 points ahead of second place.
