INDIANAPOLIS – Oakland men’s and women’s swimming and diving has been voted preseason Horizon League favorites by League head coaches. The Golden Grizzlies have won four consecutive Horizon League men’s and women’s swimming and diving titles.
Oakland received six first-place votes and 78 points to top the women’s poll and welcome back 2017 Freshman of the Year Grace Shinske. Just behind Oakland is2017 Horizon League Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship runner up Milwaukee with 71 points. UIC and league newcomer IUPUI tied for the poll’s third position with 58 points.
Green Bay is predicted in fifth place this season while Cleveland State, Youngstown State and Wright State round out the women’s preseason poll.
The Golden Grizzlies were tabbed to the top spot as well. 2017 Horizon League Freshman of the Year Micah DeJonge and 2017 Horizon League Championship Diver of the Meet Joe Smith return for Oakland, which received 50 points and five first-place votes
Cleveland State is the second place pick with 44 points and IUPUI (41 points) was voted third. UIC edged out Milwaukee for fourth position while Green Bay and Wright State finish out the men’s poll in sixth and seventh.
The 2018 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championship will take place February 21-24 on the campus Cleveland State University.
