Kayla Tetschlag, a junior forward at Green Bay, is a Women's Basketball correspondent for the HLN Blog.

Watching the ball drop on TV and celebrating a quiet New Year's Eve with my teammates got me thinking about one thing: New Year's resolutions. Have you made one?

I'm not talking about simple ones that you have already completed, like washing the dishes, or even ones you know you'll never follow through on, like calling your grandma once a week. I am talking about realistic challenges that you believe will make you a better person inside or out.

Now this got me thinking: I wonder what my teammates are going to say for their own New Year's resolutions? So I did what any curious college kid would do: I got out my cell phone, sent a mass text message to the team, and got what I was looking for. Here's a sneak peek into my text message inbox for 2010 resolutions:

  • Learn how to balance my own checkbook :) –Hannah Quilling
  • Learn how 2 juggle. –Sarah Eichler
  • Drink less soda! -Sam Zastrow
  • Maintain the water levels in the coolers and make sure it's good enough to drink! -Nellie Schafer, Mgr.
  • Look 4 my prince charming! :) -Heather Golden

Now some of these I wasn't expecting! But just like our team, as individuals we strive to be the best person we can be. Speaking of our team, we haven't made it official, but I believe we have made a few New Year's resolutions as a collective unit. We have decided to push each other even harder, hold each other accountable, and continue to improve everyday that we enter the gym.

So far 2010 has been successful. We've entered conference play, played some challenging teams, and come out on top. Of course none of this could have been possible without the work we did in 2009, 2008, 2007... you get the picture.

It's rivalry week this week, though, as we face Milwaukee on Saturday. Let's hope we stick to our resolutions longer than some people stick to their new year gym memberships. Because if we do, it's really going to pay off.
