INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC center Katie Hannemann has been named the Horizon League women’s basketball Player of the Week, while Youngstown State forward Karen Flagg has been named the Newcomer of the Week.

Hannemann scored a career-high 29 points in UIC’s 84-67 win over Milwaukee on Tuesday. The junior from Homer Glenn, Ill., was 14-of-20 from the field, setting a career-high for field goals made in a game and also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. The 14 field goals made are the second-most in a single game by a Horizon League player this season. The shooting performance also catapulted Hannemann into the national rankings in field goal percentage. After Thursday’s game, Hannemann’s 50.5 shooting percentage (108-214) ranks 36th amongst NCAA DI players in field goal percentage.

UIC (7-14, 3-5 HL) has two road games this week as the Flames take on Cleveland State (11-11, 3-6) Monday night and play at Valparaiso (8-13, 3-5) on Saturday.

Flagg won Newcomer of the Week honors for the first time this season after scoring 17 points in Youngstown State’s 58-53 win over Detroit on Thursday. The win gave the Penguins sole possession of second place in the conference. The junior from Chester, Pa., also passed out six assists, grabbed five rebounds and blocked a shot - her 10th straight game with at least one blocked shot - in the contest.

Youngstown State (16-5, 6-2) heads to Wisconsin for two games this week. YSU plays at Milwaukee (5-15, 1-7) on Thursday and at Green Bay (19-2, 9-0) on Saturday.

Top Performers for the Week:
Taylor Johnson, Loyola(Fr., G) - Johnson 15.5 ppg., 6.5 rpg., and 5.0 spg., in LU’s two games last week. She scored eight of her 19 points against Cleveland State in the final 3:11 of the game as the Ramblers rallied past the Vikings to win. She had 12 points and six steals in Loyola’s three-point loss to Green Bay on Thursday.

Adrian Ritchie, Green Bay(Sr., G) - Ritchie averaged 15.5 ppg., and 7.5 rpg., in GB’s two wins last week. She had 22 points, eight rebounds and two assists in Green Bay’s 65-62 win at Loyola on Thursday and nine points, seven rebounds and two assists in the Phoenix 64-49 win over Milwaukee on Saturday.

Shalonda Winton, Cleveland State(Sr., F) - Winton had 24 points and nine rebounds in CSU’s come-from-behind win over Wright State on Thursday. On Saturday, she recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds in the Vikings’ last second loss to Loyola, 79-78.

Ivory James, Wright State(Jr., G) - James scored a team-high 21 points off the bench in Wright State’s 68-63 loss to Cleveland State on Thursday. She was 8-of-14 from the field, knocking down three three-pointers.

Emily Decorah, Milwaukee(Jr., G) - Decorah connected on five three-pointers in both of UWM’s game last week. She was 10-of-23 (43.5%) from long-range last week and leads the HL in 3-point percentage (40%) on the season.

Laura Richards, Valparaiso(Sr., G) - Richards scored a season-high 10 points in the Crusaders loss at Detroit on Saturday. She also passed out seven assists and grabbed three rebounds against the Titans.

Top Newcomers for the Week:
Rachel Story, UIC(Jr., G) - Story scored 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting in UIC’s win over Milwaukee on Thursday. She scored 16 of her 25 points in the second half as she recorded her second-highest scoring performance of the season.

Rosanna Reynolds, Detroit(Fr., G) - Reynolds had 13 assists against just three turnovers in UDM’s two games last week. She had nine points, eight assists and six rebounds in Detroit’s 70-61 win over Valparaiso on Saturday.
