Late Goals Send Milwaukee and Northern Kentucky to Women's Soccer Title Game
Milwaukee, Wis. – Thursday's two 2016 Horizon League Women’s Soccer semifinal games followed similar scripts as both top-seeded Milwaukee and third-seeded Northern Kentucky registered go-ahead goals within the closing 10 minutes of regulation to earn their spots in Saturday's championship.
The regular-season champion Panthers (13-4-2), put up a total of 19 shots, but did not see the back of the net until the 85th minute in Thursday’s semifinal game against No. 4 Oakland (9-10-1), to a earn 1-0 victory over the defending Horizon League champions. Meanwhile, the Norse (12-6-1) tallied 15 shots throughout the match, resulting in three goals coming in the second half, including the game winner in the 84th minute, after trailing No. 2 Detroit Mercy (10-7-2), 2-0.
As a result from Thursday’s semifinal wins, Milwaukee and Northern Kentucky will meet on Saturday, Nov. 5, at 7:00 p.m. ET in the 2016 Horizon League Women's Soccer championship game. The Panthers and Norse will meet for the second time this season as Milwaukee recorded a 1-0 road win on over NKU on September 24. The winner will earn a trip to the first round of the NCAA tournament.
