WSOC earns 1-0 quarterfinal win over Wright State

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The No. 3 seeded Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team is Horizon League Championship semifinal bound after earning a 1-0 first round victory over No. 6 seed Wright State on Monday night at NKU Soccer Stadium.

With the win, NKU (11-6-1) advances to the semifinal round of its conference tournament for the third-straight year. The Norse take on No. 2 seed Detroit Mercy on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT at Engelmann Stadium in Milwaukee. WSU (6-11-2) is eliminated from the tournament with the loss. Read more

Oakland Score Three Unanswered Goals, Defeat Valpo, 3-2

ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Freshman Brooke Miura put one in the back of the net in the 87th minute as the Golden Grizzlies scored three unanswered goals against Valparaiso in the quarterfinal game on Monday at the Oakland Soccer Field to defeat the Crusaders for the second time this season, 3-2.

Valparaiso took a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute, but it was all Oakland after that. The Black and Gold answered with three-straight goals from Sydney Duggan, Sierra Grodsinsky and Miura. Sydnye Gagner tallied two assists on the night, while Aly Rawson added one. Read more

Crusaders Suffer Heartbreak In League Tournament Opener

The Valparaiso University women’s soccer team claimed a 2-0 lead in the first round of the Horizon League Championship Monday night in Rochester Hills, Mich. thanks to goals with three minutes of either side of halftime from freshman Maria Broecker (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester), but Oakland rallied with three second-half goals to send the Crusaders to a 3-2 defeat.

Valpo got on the board in the 43rd minute thanks to a somewhat unlikely source in Broecker, who had not seen the field for over a month before Monday’s fixture. Freshman Ava Porlier (Downers Grove, Ill./South) kept possession in the attacking third under pressure and poked a ball to senior April Cronin (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) down the right side. Cronin sent a cross in from the right along the ground, and Broecker was there to knock it in from the top of the six-yard box to make it 1-0 Valpo with her first career goal. Read more
