INDIANAPOLIS – Loyola senior Declan Murray (Strongsville, Ohio) and freshman Rebecca Stearns (Darien, Ill.) have been named the Horizon League Runners of the Week.

In the first meet of the season, the Laker Early Bird Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State, Murray finished first out of a field of 27 in the 600m, breaking his own school record with a time of 1:17.14. Murray also ran on the Ramblers’ 4x400m squad that placed first out of 12 teams and set a new school record at 3:13.30.

Stearns got in on the record-setting action as well. In her first collegiate action, Stearns posted a 1:31.17 in the 600m to finish first in a field of 21 and shatter the old school record by nearly six full seconds.

With the holiday break setting in, the Ramblers will not return to action until 2013, when Loyola will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Iowa New Year’s Classic on Jan. 12.
