INDIANAPOLIS – Valparaiso senior Andrew Rixon (Deerfield, Ill.) and Loyola senior Candice Carajohn (Seneca, Ill.) have been named the Horizon League Indoor Field Athletes of the Week.

At the Mastadon Opener, hosted by IPFW, Rixon took first place in the shot put competition with a distance of 14.68m (48’ 2”) to beat a field of 10. The senior also took second place out eight in the weight throw, tossing 14.56m (47’ 9 1/4”).

Rixon and the Crusaders will return to action on Saturday at the Redbird Open in Normal, Ill.

At the Laker Early Bird Invitational, hosted by Grand Valley State, Carajohn put together a 11.87m (38’ 11”) triple jump to finish first against a field of 14 competitors. She also excelled on the track, helping Loyola’s 4x400m squad break the old school record by 2.64 seconds.

The Ramblers have the rest of the year off and will return to competition at the Iowa New Year’s Classic on Jan. 12 in Iowa City.
