Loyola 77, Northern Kentucky 65
The Ramblers used a 15-0 run in the second half to turn a 44-42 deficit into a 57-44 lead and never trailed again in dropping Northern Kentucky, 77-65, on Wednesday night.

Loyola (3-1) jumped on the Norse in the first half, opening up a 17-point lead, 34-17, with 6:49 remaining in the half, but NKU ended the period on a 19-4 run to cut Loyola’s lead to two at the break. After Northern Kentucky took the lead early in the second half, Loyola’s Abby Skube and Patrice King led Loyola’s 15-0 run as the pair combined for 13 points during the streak.

NKU had one last run in them, cutting Loyola’s lead to six at 64-58 with 5:49 remaining in the game, but over the next minute the Ramblers went on a 7-0 run to put the game out of reach. Five players reached double figures for Loyola, led by Monica Albano’s 20 points. The senior guard was 7-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-10 from three-point range. Taylor Johnson, who was named the HL’s Newcomer of the Week on Monday, had 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting. Simone Law had a double-double for the Ramblers with 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. King (12) and Skube (11) rounded out the Loyola players in double digits.

The Ramblers won the turnover battle, forcing 16 NKU turnovers, while only turning it over nine times and shot 47.1% from the field (33-of-70), but were just 38.5% from the free throw line (5-of-13) and were outrebounded by four in the contest.

Tiara Hopper led Northern Kentucky with 22 points.

Illinois State 86, UIC 74
Rachel Story had a game-high 28 points for the Flames, but it was not enough as UIC (1-3) fell to instate foe Illinois State, 86-74.

Story shot 11-of-18 from the field and was 5-of-7 from the foul line to lead the Flames in points. The junior guard also had six rebounds and tied for team-high honors with five assists.

UIC jumped out to a 5-0 lead and led 11-6 five minutes in the contest when the Redbirds went on a 20-5 run to take a double-digit lead. The Flames would battle back to cut the deficit to just three, 34-31, at the half and cut the deficit to two, 38-36, two minutes into the second half, but Illinois State would go on another run – this one a 16-6 streak – to open a 54-42 with 13 minutes to play. The Flames would never get closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Joining Story in double figures for UIC was junior center Katie Hannemann, who recorded her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Emily Kobel also reached double-digits with 15 points. Story, Kobel and Hannemann combined to go for 24-for-42 (.571) from the field, but the rest of UIC was a combined 5-of-27 (.185) from the field.

Candace Sykes led Illinois State with 20 points off the bench.
