INDIANAPOLIS -- Loyola senior Declan Murray (Strongsville, Ohio) and Milwaukee freshman Michelle Garner (Greenfield, Wis.) have been named the Horizon League Runners of the Week.
It is the first honor of the outdoor season for either runner.
Running at the elite Mt. SAC Relays, Murray finished first in a field of 10 and crushed his own school record in the 800m run with a 1:46.77 finish, the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season. The senior also anchored the 4x400m relay team (46.6 split) that set a new school record at 3:08.42, breaking the old record from 1965.
The Ramblers will split their squad this weekend between the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Benedictine Twilight in Lisle, Ill.
At the Gateway Invitational, Garner finished first out of six in the 400m hurdles at 1:02.73, the fourth-fastest time in the Horizon League this season. It is also the sixth-fastest time in school history.
Milwaukee will also be attending the Drake Relays this weekend and will also compete at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative in Whitewater, Wis.
