INDIANAPOLIS -- Loyola’s Gina Valgoi (Detroit, Mich.) and Milwaukee’s Shelby Schaal (Waterford, Wis.) have been named the Horizon League Women’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of April 16 - April 22.

Valgoi, who has won Athlete of the Week honors three times this season, had another outstanding weekend when she broke the school record in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:31.24 at the Musco Twilight. The previous record was set by Kristyne McGuinn back in 2001. The junior currently leads the Horizon League standings and ranks 77th in the nation in the event.

Schaal, a senior for the Panthers, competed in the heptathlon at the Kansas Relays. She won the event with 5,063 points and broke the school record during the process. She now stands 40th in the nation and 26th in the region. Schaal set season-best times in both the 200m (26.10) and the 100m hurdles (14.57) during the seven events.

Loyola will be back in action this weekend at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. Milwaukee will travel to cross-town rival Marquette for the Marquette Invitational.
