Meeteer, McIntosh Sweep Weekly Awards for Milwaukee

INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee junior outfielder Luke Meeteer (Middleton, Wis./Middleton) has been named the Horizon League Batter of the Week, while Panthers’ left-hander Alex McIntosh (Greenville, Wis./Hortonville) is the League’s Pitcher of the Week, for the week of April 6-12. The accolade is the first of the season for both players.

Milwaukee (17-11, 6-8 Horizon) went 3-2 on the week, collecting non-conference wins over UW-Superior, 7-0, and at No. 15 Iowa, 4-3, before falling in its Horizon League series to league-leading UIC.

The catalyst at the top of Milwaukee’s lineup, Meeteer went 10-for-19 on the week, posting a 1.203 OPS from the leadoff spot. At Iowa, Meeteer was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and driving in the eventual game-winning run in the eighth inning.

Against UIC, Meeteer added two more multi-hit games to his tally, scoring two runs in the series opener to fuel the Panthers’ 4-1 win.

With three stolen bases on the week, Meeteer extended his Horizon League-leading total to 21.

Finding out he was starting just 20 minutes before Milwaukee’s game versus UW-Superior, McIntosh set the table for the first no-hitter in program history, striking out 11 across seven innings of work.

The 11 punch outs are the most by a starting pitcher in the Horizon League this season.

Milwaukee will hit the road in non-conference action, taking on Western Illinois in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 14, before meeting Chicago State the following day. The Panthers will host Youngstown State at Henry Aaron Field in a Horizon League series beginning on Friday, April 17.

Horizon League top performers (April 6-12)

• Jeff Boehm, UIC (Sr., 1B) - Drove in nine Flames across four games last week, part of a 7-for-17 effort as UIC went 3-1.
• Frank Califano, Youngstown State (Jr., OF) - Had hits in four of YSU’s five games last week, including a pair in all three games at Wright State.
• Mark Fowler, Wright State (Sr., OF) Went 7-for-13 in WSU’s series win over YSU, posting a 1.494 OPS after a homer and two doubles. The senior drove in five in the series while scoring six runs.
• Nate Palace, Valparaiso (So., 1B) - With two homers, Palace moved into a tie atop the Horizon League with seven. The sophomore posted a 1.429 OPS, scoring eight times in Valpo’s sweep of Oakland.
• Ian Yetsko, Oakland (Jr., C) - Posted a 1.604 OPS in Oakland’s four games, going 8-for-14 with four doubles. The junior drove in six on the week while scoring five runs.
• Ian Lewandowski, UIC (Jr., RHP) - In the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader, Lewandowski twirled 7.2 scoreless innings, scattering five hits in helping UIC to claim the series win.
• Dalton Lundeen, Valparaiso (Jr., LHP) - Striking out 10, Lundeen tossed his first complete game of the season against Oakland, allowing one earned run in Valpo’s 9-3 win.
• Trevor Swaney, Wright State (So., RHP) - Starting the rubber match of the series versus YSU, Swaney went six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five to earn the win.
• Jared Wright, Youngstown State (Jr., LHP) - After collecting a win with a scoreless inning of relief versus Canisius, Wright started at Wright State on Friday, tossing five innings and allowing one run to lead the Penguins to victory.
