INDIANAPOLIS – Milwaukee senior Sam Koenig and Detroit senior Louisa Coppola have been named the Horizon League’s Scholar-Athletes of the Month for February.

Koenig is a senior on the Milwaukee baseball team and holds a 3.86 grade point average. As an education major, Koenig has been a regular member of the UWM Dean’s List as well as the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll. On the field for the Panthers, Koenig led the squad to a school-record start in the month of February where the team went 5-3 over eight contests. The team’s impressive debut helped them receive votes in a handful of national baseball poles early in the season. The senior posted a .444 batting average while recording 12 hits, nine runs scored and nine runs batted in. Koenig notched a .704 slugging percentage at the plate for Milwaukee, had a .583 on-base percentage and did not make an error in the field.

Coppola is an English literature major at Detroit and maintains a 3.88 GPA. The senior is a three-time member of the UDM Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and was on the Fall Horizon League Academic Honor Roll.

Coppola competes for the Titans’ women’s track and field team and won the Horizon League Indoor Championship in the mile run competing against 18 runners in the race. The senior anchored the DMR relay team that won by six seconds and also finished fourth in the 3,000 meter race. Coppola tabbed 24 Detroit’s 62 points during the Championship.
