Women's Results Round 1

Men's Results Round 1

The first day of the 2013 Horizon League Golf Championships saw no team able to break away as both fields remain bunched together after one round of play at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The Loyola Ramblers, the defending men’s champion, have the lead after one round after combining to shoot a 299, but Cleveland State is only one stroke behind and Valparaiso is just two strokes behind.

Green Bay is also right on the heels of the Ramblers as the Phoenix shot a 304 in the first round. Overall, the top-four teams in the field are separated by just five shots.

Detroit is in fifth place after shooting an opening round 311, with Youngstown State (312) and Wright State (317) right behind the Titans.

Andrew Bailey, the two-time Horizon League Golfer of the Year on the men’s side, has a two-stroke lead on the field after firing an opening round two-under-par 70. The Viking junior was at four-under par through 15, but a double-bogey on 16 – his first hole over-par since the fourth hole – allowed the field to close within two. Overall, Bailey had six birdies in the opening round against just two bogeys and the double-bogey on 16.

Thomas Wettstein of Valparaiso and Nick Dennis of Loyola are tied for second after even-par rounds of 72 on Friday. Green Bay’s Cam Fuller and Loyola’s Alex Cusumano are next on the leaderboard after shooting 74.

Detroit and Cleveland State exited the first round in a tie for first after both squads shot 312 in the first round. Youngstown State and Valparaiso are nine strokes behind UDM and CSU in a tie for 3rd. Loyola is in fifth place after an opening round 327, while Green Bay (331) and UIC (338) round out the field.

CSU’s Allyson Hackman has a three-stroke lead on the field after shooting a one-over-par 71 on the opening 18 holes. Her score was just two strokes short of tying for the Horizon League record for lowest round in the championship.

Valparaiso’s Kelly Voigt and Detroit’s Christina Thorne are tied for second with scores of 76, while UDM’s Olivia Richards and Youngstown State’s Allison Mitzel are one-shot behind in a tie for fourth at 77. Shelly Ford (Cleveland State) and HL Golfer of the Year Lindsey Lammers (Detroit) are next in-line with scores of 79.

Round two starts on Saturday with action beginning at 7:30 a.m.  (http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/index.cfm?tournament_id=4238) and women (http://www.golfstatresults.com/public/index.cfm?tournament_id=4239) at these links.
