INDIANAPOLIS -- A seven-game slate on Saturday highlights a busy weekend for Horizon League men's basketball teams as Valparaiso, Wright State and Milwaukee participate in tournaments and Detroit travels to Miami for a game the will be broadcast nationally on ESPN3.
Valpo is the only Horizon League team hosting tournament games this weekend, opening Friday night against Chicago State on HLN in the Joe Cipriano Nebraska Classic. Wright State also begins its tournament run on Friday, taking on Idaho State at the Utah Thanksgiving Tournament in Salt Lake City. The Raiders took a 59-55 loss to Central Michigan in opening-round action on Wednesday.
Both Valparaiso and Wright State will return to tournament action on Saturday. The Crusaders will again play on HLN, facing the winner of Friday night's contest pitting Bethune-Cookman against Nebraska-Omaha. WSU, meanwhile, faces host Utah in Saturday's nightcap, tipping off at 9:30 p.m. ET. The Utes beat Idaho State 57-46 on Wednesday.
In other tournament action on Saturday, Milwaukee faces Jacksonville in the Hoops for Hope Classic. The Panthers will finish off the weekend against Rider in the Horizon League's only Sunday game.
In the final HLN game of the weekend, UIC looks to extend its hot start as the Flames host Southeast Missouri on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Available on national webcast earlier in the day will be Detroit against Miami on ESPN3 at 2 p.m. Fans of above-the-rim play should keep an eye on forward Doug Anderson, who last Saturday had a career-high game with 26 points and 10 rebounds against Drake and delivered yet another highlight-reel dunk.
In the other Saturday games, Loyola faces Northern Illinois, led by the Ramblers 19th 1,000-point/500-rebound player in senior forward Ben Averkamp, while Green Bay hosts North Dakota State as the Phoenix look to rebound after a long roadtrip.
