GENEVA, Ohio - Milwaukee leads the men's and women's competitions after the first day of the 2011 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships. This year's event at the GaReat Facility in Geneva, Ohio wraps up on Sunday.

On the men's side, Milwaukee (43.50 points) leads Detroit (23), Butler (23), Youngstown State (22.50), UIC (17), Loyola (14), and Valparaiso (12).

On the women's side, Milwaukee (58 points) leads Youngstown (32), UIC (30.50), Butler (23), Loyola (22), Wright State (12), Valparaiso (7.5), and Detroit (1).

Saturday's action featured fivenew indoor championship records. Wright State junior Cassandra Lloyd turned in an 8.35 in the 60-meter hurdles, Milwaukee sophomore Durell Busby recorded an 8.05 in the 60 meter, Milwaukee senior Reigna Pierce leaped 5.96 meters in the long jump, UIC junior Kellie Schuh vaulted 3.80 meters in the pole vault, and Milwaukee sophomore Elise Sigg ran a 16.49.68 in the 5,000 meter.  

Other men's event champions included Loyola junior Josh Stein in the 5,000 meter (14:24.54), Valparaiso senior Jarrett Mickens in the long jump (7.37 meters), Milwaukeejunior Matt Jensen in the weight throw (17.05 meters), Valparaiso’s distance medley relay team (10:53.92),and Milwaukee junior Ben Crogan in the pole vault (4.80 meters).

Other women's event champions included Butler's distance medley relay team (12:03.31), and Youngstown State senior Alexis Hall in the weight throw (18.25 meters).

Crogan is leading the men in the heptathlon after winning the high jump and taking second in the shot put,  while Loyola sophomore Candace Carajohn claimed two of five competitions in the pentathlon (shot put and 800 meter) winning the event with 3,362 points.

Competition begins on Sunday at 9 a.m. ET.
