INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee sophomore Sam Koenig and Wright State senior Jordan Marker have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of April 9-15.

Koenig picked up Batter of the Week accolades after batting .579 in Milwaukee’s four games last week with seven of his 11 hits going for extra bases. In UWM’s 13-2 win over Wisconsin Lutheran on Wednesday, Koenig was 2-for-4 as he hit his first double and first triple of the season. In UWM’s 10-9 extra-inning loss to Wright State on Friday, Koenig was 3-for-6 with two doubles and one RBI. On Sunday in the doubleheader against WSU, Koenig was 3-for-4 with one double in the Panthers’ 8-3 loss to the Raiders in game one and was 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI in the second game of the doubleheader, a 9-7 Milwaukee win which ended Wright State’s 14-game win streak.

Koenig finished the week with six doubles, one triple, a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on-base percentage of .636. He is currently on an 11-game hitting streak, batting .522 (24-for-46) during that stretch.

Marker picked up Pitcher of the Week honors after recording one win and one save last week for Wright State. In the Raiders’ 2-1 win over Miami on Wednesday which gave WSU its first Joe Nuxhall Classic title, Marker pitched 2.2 innings of one-hit ball, striking out five, including the final two Miami batters of the game, to earn the win. On Sunday, Marker pitched 4.0 innings of hit-one baseball, striking out five to get the save in Wright State’s 8-3 win over Milwaukee. Overall, Marker pitched 6.2 innings last week, as he allowed no runs and just two hits while striking out 10.

For the season, Marker is 4-1 with one save and has a 2.73 ERA. He has 27 strikeouts in 26.1 innings pitched.

Other Horizon League top performers (April 9-15)
Jimmy Risi, Butler, Jr., 1B -
Risi batted .400 with three home runs in Butler’s four games last week. He hit the game-winning home run in the eighth-inning of Butler’s 8-6 win over Ball State. He finished the week with eight RBIs.

Jake Hibberd, Wright State, Sr., 1B -Hibberd batted .391 with one double and one home run last week. He was 3-for-4 with a home run, double and RBI in WSU’s 8-3 win over Milwaukee on Sunday.

Tanner Vavra, Valparaiso, Jr., IF - Vavra had three mult-hit games last week, hitting .444 for the entire week. He drove in four runs and scored five himself as the Crusaders went 5-0 last week.

Alex Grunenwald, UIC, Jr., 1B - Grunenwald hit .550 last week (11-of-20), scoring nine runs and adding seven RBIs as the Flames went 2-2.

Kevin Wild, Valparaiso, Sr., RHP - Wild threw 8.0 innings of shutout baseball on Saturday. He allowed five hits and struck out two in Valpo’s 10-0 win. He has a 3-1 record with a 2.15 ERA in his last six starts.

Charlie Weinberg, UIC, Jr., RHP - Weinberg was 1-0 last week after throwing 6.0 innings of one-run baseball. He allowed four hits and struck out three, while allowing opposing batters to only hit .235 against him.
