Wright State's Schneider and Hibberd Earn Scholar-Athlete of the Month Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – Wright State’s Colleen Schneider and Jake Hibberd have been named the Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Month for the month of March.

Schneider, a softball player for WSU, hit .429 (21 for 49) with three home runs, 13 RBI and nine runs scored during the month of March. She had six multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games. The junior went three for three at Indiana and four for four in the Raiders second game at Ohio State. She hit two home runs and drove in five in Detroit doubleheader.

Off the field, Schneider is a mechanical engineering major and holds a team-best 3.933 cumulative GPA. She is a member of the Horizon League and WSU Honor Rolls and made the Dean’s List last fall.

Hibberd is a baseball player at Wright State. He also hit .429 (36 for 84) for the month with three home runs, 25 RBI and 16 runs scored. He safely hit in all 19 games with 11 multi-hit hames and eight multi-RBI games. The Raiders were 14-5, 7-2 in the Horizon League during the month. In addition, the senior was named the WSU SAAC Athlete of the Month in March.

A mass communication major, Hibberd is a member of the Horizon League and WSU Honor Roll, as well as the Dean’s List. He holds a GPA of 3.588 and was a 2011 CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American selection. Hibberd was chosen for the Academic All-Horizon League Team in 2009-10 and 2010-11. This is his second time being named the Scholar-Athlete of the Month after winning the title last May.

The Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Month recognizes outstanding academic and athletic achievements. To be eligible for the honor, the student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and perform well during the month’s competition. Winners are selected by the League’s faculty athletics representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
