INDIANAPOLIS – Milwaukee junior Simbi Laaro (Green Bay, Wis) and Detroit senior Charles Anthony (Northville, Mich.) have been named Horizon League Indoor Track Runners of the Week for the week of Jan. 14-20.

Running in her first meet of the season, Laaro broke both the program and Klotsche Center record of 7.52 in the 60m dash at the John Tierney Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis. Her blazing time of 7.50 topped the previous mark, which she set in 2012. Her time ranks as the 48th best in the nation.

Competing at the Jack Harvey/Red Simmons Invitational at the University of Michigan, Anthony took fifth-place in the 60m dash and third-place in the 200m dash. Facing 28 competitors in the 60m, including eventual winner and United States Olympian Jeff Porter, Anthony sprinted to a time of 7.00, .23 seconds behind Porter. In the 200m, his time of 22.34 was good for a third-place finish out of 21 runners and was just .06 seconds out of second-place. His 200m time marked a .17 improvement from last week’s finish at the Eastern Michigan Triangular.

Milwaukee returns to action on Jan. 25 at the John Craft Invite in Charleston, Ill. That same day, Detroit will compete at the IPFW Quadrangular.
