OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (Courtesy of Northern Kentucky Media Relations)– Northern Kentucky women's soccer student-athlete Jessica Frey was selected as one of 30 candidates for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.

Frey leads NKU in goals (6) and points (12) this season. Her six goals are currently tied for 28th in NCAA Division I. Earlier this season in a match against Morehead State, the Norse fell behind 1-0. Frey scored two goals in the match in the second half to help lead NKU to the 2-1 win. She has also earned many achievements on the field, including being named to the Horizon League First Team in 2015 and 2016. She was also named the 2016 Horizon League Tournament MVP, helping the team to its first NCAA Division I Tournament berth in the program's first year of postseason eligibility.

As a nursing major, Frey maintains a 3.746 GPA. Upon graduation in the spring, Frey plans to work in a critical care unit at a children's hospital. She also hopes to advance in her field by becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Because of her excellence in the classroom, she has been named to the 2015 and 2016 Horizon League All-Academic Teams, as well as the 2015 COSIDA Academic All-District.

Frey is also very active in the community. She has volunteered at the Liberty Matrix Nursing Home and the St. Lawrence Catholic Church after school program. She has also participated in the Price Hill Summer Clean-Up, Down Syndrome Buddy Walk, and the "Pause for Parents, Play for Kids" program through the Butler County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

"Jess is an outstanding young lady and continues to represent herself and our program at the highest level," said NKU head coach Bob Sheehan.

Out of the 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, 10 finalists will be selected midway through the regular season. Those 10 finalists will be placed on the official ballot, which will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans.
