MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- Northern Kentucky women's soccer team fell to No. 1 seed West Virginia in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium Saturday afternoon. After capturing their first Horizon League title, the Norse season comes to an end, as the Mountaineers now improve to 20-1-1 and will face Ohio State in the second round of the tournament.

West Virginia registered their first goal of the match in the opening minute. The Norse were able to hold off the Mountaineers for the remainder of the first half, but came up short as the top seeded hosts tallied in two more goals in the second half. West Virginia out shot NKU 34-6, putting 14 on net.

Northern Kentucky's Emily Lohmann gathered a total of eight saves, while junior Macy Hamblin tallied a team-high three shots. Northern Kentucky University falls to 13-7-1 on the season, including a 6-2-1 mark in the Horizon League regular season.
