INDIANAPOLIS -- Oakland junior guard Kay Felder (Detroit, Mich./Pershing) has been named the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Cleveland State freshman guard Rob Edwards (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week.
Felder scored a career-high 38 points in leading Oakland to a 97-83 win at Washington on Saturday to grab Player of the Week honors. The junior guard was 14-of-27 from the field and 8-of-11 from the foul line, while also passing out nine assists. He scored 25 points in the first half as the Golden Grizzlies opened up a 55-35 lead over the Huskies at intermission.
The win was Oakland’s first over a power-five opponent on the road since 2010.
For the season, Felder ranks second in all of NCAA DI with a scoring average of 25.9 points per game and leads the country with an average of 8.9 assists per game. He is one of five players in the nation to rank in the top-50 in both scoring and assists per game average, but the only player to rank in the top-10 in both categories.
