Oakland's Felder Named Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week

BOSTON -- For the second-straight week and third time this season, Oakland's Kay Felder earned Lou Henson award national player of the week honors.

The junior guard had a career-high 38 points in the Golden Grizzlies 97-83 win at Washington and had nine assists, six rebounds and one steal in 35 minutes against the Huskies.

The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball.

The award is named in honor of Lou Henson who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years. When he left the game in 2005 he was sixth all-time in career Division I wins with 779. He is the winningest coach at both Illinois and New Mexico State. He is one of only 12 coaches in the history of the game to take two schools to the Final Four.

Felder ranks second in the NCAA with a scoring average of 25.9 points per game and leads the country in assists per game with 8.9.

The Golden Grizzlies have won four consecutive games and are off to their best start in the Division I era at 7-3. They return to action on Tuesday night against No. 1 Michigan State at The Palace on ESPNU with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
