INDIANAPOLIS—Oakland junior Joey Tinnion (Macomb, Mich.) and Valparaiso senior Todd Vervynckt (Plymouth, Ind.) have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District V Men’s Soccer Team while Milwaukee junior Laurie Bell (Poynton, England) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VI Men’s Soccer Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), announced Thursday.
Tinnion holds a 3.66 grade point average in the classroom as a history and secondary education major. On the field, Tinnion has six goals on the season for the Golden Grizzlies and leads the team with 14 points.
Vervynckt owns a 3.98 grade point average as a mechanical engineering major. This is the second time he has been named to the All-District V Team and was also a 2012 Third Team Academic All-American selection. For the Crusaders, Vervynckt is second on the team in goals scored and tied for second in assists with two in each category.
Bell earns the All-District VI honor for the second straight year with a 3.72 grade point average as an English and journalism major. On the field, he is leading the Horizon League in points, goals and shots and is currently tied for eighth in NCAA Division I in points with 25 and ranks seventh with 11 goals scored.
The 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. In order to be eligible for the team, the student-athlete must be at least sophomore status, be either a starter or key reserve and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30. First-Team Academic All-District selections advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot and will be selected later this month.
