MINNEAPOLIS - Junior diver Tricia Grant placed 31st on the 1-meter springboard Thursday in the preliminary round of the 2014 NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by the University of Minnesota.

"It didn't go the way we hoped it would today," Oakland diving coach Larry Albright said. "We're just going to put our focus on tomorrow and hopefully be mentally prepared."

After low scores to start her six-dive set, Grant finished strong with a 48.00 on her final dive of the day, an inward 1 1/2 somersault in the pike position. Grant was also solid on her fourth dive, a back 1 1/2 somersault pike, where she scored 47.15.

Grant will conclude her competition at the NCAA Championship with the 3-meter event scheduled for Friday, March 21.
