TOWSON, Md. -- Youngstown State senior Kendrick Perry (Ocoee, Fla./Edgewater) has been named to the 2013-14 Division I Men's Basketball Capital One Academic All-America Second-Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday.

A criminal justice major with an overall grade-point average of 3.46, Perry is just the second Youngstown State men's basketball player to earn academic all-America honors. The last YSU men's basketball player to earn academic all-America honors was Adam Baumann, who was named third-team in 2004.

Perry, the 2013-14 Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year, is the 14th Youngstown State Academic All-American since 2001 and the 18th in school history.

Perry, a two-time All-Horizon League First-Team pick and a two-time NABC All-District selection, is Youngstown State's Division I all-time leading scorer with 1,862 career points and owns the YSU and Horizon League career steals records with 238. Perry's career points total currently ranks 18th in Horizon League history.

This season, Perry has scored 553 points, ranks 20th in the NCAA with 20.5 points per game, and has scored at least 30 points in a game six times. Perry leads the Horizon League in scoring, ranks second with 2.5 steals per game, fourth with a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio, and fifth with 4.1 assists per game.

Perry became the first Youngstown State player to score at least 500 points in three straight seasons in the Division I era. He scored 519 in 2012-13 and 521 in 2011-12. He is just the third player in school history to accomplish that feat.

A 2012-13 Academic All-Horizon League selection, Perry was named the Horizon League's Male Student-Athlete of the Month for January. He averaged 18.7 points per game over seven contests during the month and scored 31 points against both Milwaukee on Jan. 2 and Cleveland State on Jan. 13.

Perry's selection marks the eighth straight season a Horizon League men's basketball player earned Academic All-America recognition.
