Detroit 65, UIC 59

Detroit opened the second half on a 10-0 run, assuming control of the game and holding on down the stretch to grab a key road win at UIC, 65-59, at the UIC Pavilion.

Detroit (13-15, 6-7 Horizon) moved into sixth place in the Horizon League standings, positiing the Titans for a first-round home game at the moment. UIC's (5-22, 0-13 Horizon) hard-luck season continued, as the Flames fell for the 16th consecutive game.

Juwan Howard Jr. recorded his 13th 20-point performance of the season, while freshman Jarod Williams poured in career-high 17 points. The Titans improved to a perfect 7-0 this season when holding opponents to under 60 points.

UIC held a 36-34 lead at the half, before Detroit scored the first 10 points of the second half, taking a 44-36 lead just over four minutes into the stanza and forcing a quick Flames' timeout.

The Flames knotted the score with 4:43 on the clock after Detroit extended its lead to nine, but UIC was plagued with a 18 percent shooting mark in the final period.

UIC opened the game by converting on 13 of its 14 possessions, eventually shooting 52-percent from the floor en route to building a nine-point lead midway through the half. However, Detroit closed the first half on a 6-0 run, taking momentum into the locker room before coming out the same way to start the second half.

Kelsey Barlow netted a team-high 17 points for UIC, his 20th double-digit game of the season, while Jordan Harks and Marc Brown chipped in 13 and 11, respectively.

Howard finished with a game-high 20 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots, while Williams added three steals to his career-high point total. Carlton Brundidge added 15 points, 12 in the first half.
