INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee senior Dan Simon (Bristol, Wis.) has been named the Horizon League men's outdoor field Athlete of the Week while fellow Panthers senior Samia Taylor (Madison, Wis.) and Loyola senior Candice Carajohn (Seneca, Ill.) are co-honorees on the women's side.
It is the second award of the season for both Simon and Carajohn, who repeat after being honored last week. The award is the first of the season for Taylor.
Simon set personal records in both the long jump (4.87m) and the pole vault (7.16m) at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternate. Both marks rank as the second-best in the Horizon League this season.
Having finished third out of 20 competitors in the pole vault, Simon's mark is the third-best in school history. He also is tied for fourth-best in school history in the long jump after finishing second in a field of 14.
At the same meet, Taylor set the best mark in the Horizon League this season in the long jump (6.02m), missing the school record by just half an inch. Beating out a field of eight jumpers, Taylor's mark ranks 71st in the nation.
Carajohn broke her own school record by nearly two feet while setting the season's best mark in the Horizon League in the triple jump (12.71m) at the Drake Relays. The leap finished third in a field of 26 and ranks 13th in the NCAA West Region. Carajohn also helped the Ramblers to the second-fastest time in school history in the 4x400m relays (3:41.17).
Milwaukee and Loyola will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich., this weekend to compete in the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
