Six Horizon League women's soccer student-athletes were named to College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Teams.
Northern Kentucky sophomore forward Jessica Frey was named to the District 2 First Team. Valparaiso senior defender Jenny Fassbinder and senior midfielder Rita Craven were named to District 5 First Team, while Detroit senior defender Tatum Zurawski was named to Second Team. Milwaukee junior goalkeeper Paige Lincicum and senior midfielder Kelsey Holbert were named to the District 6 First Team.
Frey has maintained a 3.96 grade-point average as a pre-nursing major averaging 1.12 points per game. The sophomore has scored a team-high six goals along with five assists. She has helped lead the Norse to a 9-5-1 overall record, with a 5-2-1 mark in their first season in the Horizon League.
Fassbinder currently holds a 3.96 GPA as a biology major, with minors in psychology and chemistry. Seeing action all over the field, the senior scored a goal in the Crusader’s Horizon League win over UIC. Craven holds a 3.96 GPA as a biology major, with minors in psychology and chemistry; she is ranked fourth in the league for her six goals and three assists this season. The senior has nine match-winning goals for her career, one goal shy of Valparaiso’s all-time record.
Lincicum carries a 3.96 GPA, majoring in kinesiology, while playing an important role as goalie for the Panthers. The junior has earned Horizon League Player of the Week recognition four times, as well as recording a 0.72 GAA this season. Her current scoreless streak is 525:10 with six shutouts. Holbert, a pre-med chemistry major, holds a 3.97 GPA and has started in 73-of-75 career appearances for the Panthers, accounting for eight points on one goal and six assists this season.
The Academic All-District Teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third- team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
