The 2010 Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships begin this weekend at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky.  The women are set to tee off at 8 a.m. ET on Saturday with play concluding on Sunday afternoon.  The men begin action on Monday at 8 a.m. as their event wraps up on Tuesday afternoon.  Both tournaments feature 54 holes of par 72 golf with the winner of each event earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

Last season Youngstown State hoisted the women’s team trophy as the Penguins placed three individuals in the top seven.  Then-freshman Samantha Formeck took home top medalist honors and garnered Player and Newcomer of the Year accolades.  YSU general Roseann Schwartz was named Horizon League Coach of the Year.

On the men’s side, Cleveland State earned its third title in four years as senior Jake Scott led the Vikings to a five-stroke victory in 2009.  Scott picked up first-place individual laurels and was later named Player of the Year.  CSU’s Steve Weir collected his second consecutive Coach of the Year award while Green Bay’s Austin Ehlenfeldt garnered Newcomer of the Year honors.

The Horizon League Network will be on hand to cover the annual event and provide video recaps of each championship, including interviews with top players and coaches.

Live scoring of both tournaments can bee seen at www.golfstat.com.
