Oakland Drops Season Opener at Miami, 66-53 -- Box Score
MIAMI, Fla. - Olivia Nash recorded a double-double with a career-high 24 points as Oakland dropped its 2014-15 season opener to Miami, 66-53, Friday afternoon at BankUnited Center. The Golden Grizzlies drop to 1-4 in its last five season-opening games.
"Really proud of how our team competed," said coach Jeff Tungate. "We need to realize though that the margin of error in an ACC gym is small. Too many first-half turnovers and missed open shots throughout the game. Considering how poorly we defended in our two scrimmages, the effort and execution today shows how much this team is willing to work and improve defensively. Once we settle down on offense and learn to play uncomfortable, we will be just fine. I like our team." Read more

CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the seventh straight season the Cleveland State women's basketball team was victorious in its home opener, defeating Toledo, 81-71 Friday evening. The win also gave CSU its fifth win in season-openers over the past six years.
"I am very pleased with how we performed both offensively and defensively against a tough opponent in Toledo for our first game of the season," head coach Kate Peterson Abiad said. "They execute their plays very well and you definitely have to be tuned in defensively against them or they have the strength to get some easy baskets. I felt like our players were very focused throughout every possession, and I thought we did a very good job of handling everything they threw at us offensively. We certainly had some break downs at times, but overall I was very pleased with our performance." Read more
