Two Key Horizon League Matchups Saturday

Saturday, Oct. 19 Schedule:

3:30 p.m. – Detroit at Green Bay | HLN
8:00 p.m. – Wright State at UIC

Detroit (3-6-4, 0-3-0) men’s soccer team travels to Green Bay (6-4-3, 1-1-1) looking for its first Horizon League victory of the season.  In game two of a women’s and men’s doubleheader on Saturday, Oct. 19, the start time for the Titans and Phoenix is set for 3:30 p.m.

Last Time Out

Detroit Titans: Detroit got its first victory on Titan Field this season against Western Michigan 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Adam Bedell led the Titans with both goals of the match; he now has eight on the year.  Junior goalkeeper Nathan Steinwascher earned his third shutout of the season, finishing with three saves against the Broncos.

Green Bay Phoenix: With a late goal in the second half, Green Bay lost to Drake 2-1 Tuesday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium. After falling behind early, the Phoenix responded in the 25th minute with a goal by Lawrence Talery that hit the inside of the post and deflected over the head of Drake’s goalkeeper.

8:00 p.m. – Wright State at UIC

Wright State ( 3-6-1, 1-2-0) travels to Chicago to take on UIC (10-3-0, 3-0-0) Saturday, Oct. 19 at Flames Field with a kick-off time of 8 p.m. The Flames are currently undefeated in Horizon League play and are second in the conference standings.

Last Time Out

Wright State Raiders: Wright State played a conference match against Oakland last Saturday, losing to the Golden Grizzlies 2-1 at Alumni Field.  After scoring first, the Raiders were not able to counter Oakland’s two goals with one coming in each half. Freshman goalkeeper Tyler Blackmer recorded five saves on the day.

UIC Flames: The UIC men’s soccer team beat ranked conference-foe Milwaukee 1-0 Wednesday night at Flames Field. The win marked the team’s eighth shutout of the season, remaining undefeated in Horizon League play. Junior Jesus Torres scored the lone goal of the match in the 66th minute off a pass from Slobodan Aleksov.
