PENDLETON, Ind. - Regular-season champion University of Illinois at Chicago broke open a tie game with four runs in the fourth and defeated the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay 7-4 in the fourth game of the Horizon League Softball Championship at Legends Field in Pendleton, Ind.

After UIC surrendered a 3-1 lead in the top of the third, the Flames' Carly DeMarco singled with one out in the fourth, stole second and then scored on a Green Bay error of an attempted sacrifice bunt off the bat of Melinda Macias. One batter later, Brooke Frydendall drove in two runs with a single to left. Another error by the Phoenix - one of its five in the game - allowed the final run to score.

Ashley Hewett's three-run home run in the second had given UIC (25-24) a 3-1 lead in the second, but Green Bay responded with two in the third on an RBI double by Krissy Hanson, who later scored on a fielder's choice.

Sarah Clynes (7-13), who was named the League's Player of the Year Wednesday night, pitched the final four innings to earn the victory, allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Hewett started and gave up three runs in three innings.
