INDIANAPOLIS – UIC senior midfielder Slobodan Aleksov (Belgrade, Serbia) is the Horizon League Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Oakland’s senior goalkeeper Sean Lewis (Rockford, Mich.) has earned Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 7-13.

UIC (9-3-0, 2-0-0) men’s soccer team endured its first overtime match of the season against Eastern Illinois Tuesday evening with the game-winning goal coming in the 104th minute. The Flames went on to notch their third-straight victory on Saturday against Detroit, winning 2-0 to remain unbeaten in the Horizon League.

UIC midfielder Slobodan Aleksov was an offensive spark to the Flames all week. In the match against Eastern Illinois, Aleksov scored both UIC goals with the second marking his fourth goal of the season and first game-winner. His strong offensive prowess continued in the Horizon League matchup against Detroit as he converted a penalty kick in the opening period, accumulating six total shots on the day.

Oakland (5-2-5, 3-0-1) men’s soccer team got down early against Wright State Saturday but battled back to defeat the Raiders 2-1. The Golden Grizzlies are on an eight-game unbeaten streak and currently hold the top spot in the Horizon League rankings with 10 points.

Oakland goalkeeper Sean Lewis tallied seven saves against Wright State at Alumni Field. He now totals 39 saves on the season and a .73 goals-against average. This is the third Defensive Player of the Week honor for Lewis this year.

UIC returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at home against nationally-ranked Milwaukee at 7 p.m. CT. The Golden Grizzlies will be back on the pitch when they travel to Michigan State on Wednesday, Oct. 16 starting at 4 p.m.

Top Offensive Performers of the Week:
Sergio Manesio, Cleveland State (Fr., MF)—Scored a pair of goals against Green Bay and had a goal against Akron.
Joey Tinnion, Oakland (Jr., F)—Scored the game-winning goal against Wright State and lone goal for OU against Denver. Tinnion has scored four goals in the last three matches.

Top Defensive Performers of the Week:
Nick Ciraldo, Cleveland State (Fr., GK)—Ciraldo has defended 17 shots on goal this season.
