UIC redshirt senior Ruvanna Campbell has been selected as a candidate for the 2015-16 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate basketball as announced today. Campbell is just one of 60 candidates competing in NCAA men’s and women’s basketball chosen for the award.
The 6-3 forward leads the Flames with 17.2 points and 12.5 rebounds per game this season. On Jan. 14 she became the all-time rebound leader in UIC history breaking the record that stood for 37 years. In just three seasons at UIC, Campbell has rewritten the record books placing her name among the UIC leaders in multiple categories.
She will graduate in spring 2016 becoming the first in her immediate family to receive a college degree.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
To be eligible for the CLASS award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2016 NCAA Men’s Final Four® and NCAA Women’s Final Four®.
Each of the 30 candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
