INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State senior Kim Demmings (Richmond, Ind.) is the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Cleveland State’s Ashanti Abshaw (Cleveland Heights, Mich.) is the Freshman of the Week for the week of Jan. 11-17.

Wright State remained unbeaten in conference play with two road wins this week at Detroit and Oakland. The Raiders shot 46 percent for the game in the 89-71 win over the Titans while four student-athletes tabbed double figures. At the O’Rena against the Golden Grizzlies, Wright State had to rally in the fourth quarter in order to pull off the 77-72 victory. Although the Raiders led for a majority of the contest, the game saw 12 lead changes and was tied two times.

Demmings became Wright State’s all-time leading scorer in both men’s and women’s basketball passing Bill Edwards (2303 points from 1989-93) after tying the record at Detroit and breaking it against Oakland. Facing the Titans, the senior scored 25 points going 10-for-17 from the field and 4-for-8 from beyond the arc in addition to six rebounds and four assists. A couple days later versus the Golden Grizzlies, Demmings tallied 17 points, three rebounds and three assists in the win. For the week she averaged 21.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 3.5 apg.

Cleveland State captured its first conference win of the year against Youngstown State on Saturday 75-68. The team had four players reach double figures in the contest during the back-and-forth game that displayed 13 lead changes and six tied scores.

Abshaw led the Vikings to victory with a career-high 23 point performance to mark her fourth 20-point game of the season. In addition, the freshman collected a team-high 10 rebounds to tab a double-double for her fifth time this year and sixth double-digit rebounding game. Abshaw went 8-for-15 (.533) from the field, 3-for-5 (.600) from three-point range and grabbed three steals to cap-off her outing.

Wright State welcomes Milwaukee to the Nutter Center on Thursday, January 21 for a 7:00 p.m. ET tip-off while Cleveland State is at Valparaiso beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET. Both teams compete on Saturday, January 23 with the Raiders hosting Green Bay at 2:00 p.m. ET and the Vikings at UIC for a 6:00 p.m. ET contest.
