Oakland 2, Green Bay 1
Goals from Claudia Krupicz and Vlad Gurovski propelled Oakland (3-8-1, 1-1) to a 2-1 victory over Green Bay (6-3-2, 0-1) Friday night at the Oakland Soccer Field. Jenny Rosonke assisted on the first goal while Joan Sieja's assist set up Gurovski's first career game-winner. GB, who entered the match with the Horizon League's best overall record and highest scoring offense, was held scoreless in the second half courtesy of Alison Holland who came off the bench to spark the defense helping the Golden Grizzlies earn their first conference win.

"Tonight we knew we were going up against a really tough team in Green Bay who are very good on set pieces," said head coach Margaret Saurin. "We made it our mission to be strong in that area and we knew if we could hold them at bay, we would be able to create enough chances to win this game. Thankfully, we did that and I am happy we put those two chances away. We also used a team defensive effort putting pressure on the ball if we lost it and had cover across the field. The energy level tonight was really good, the effort was there to really win the ball back and that is what kept us in the game and gave us an opportunity to win."

Krupicz got Oakland on the board just three minutes into the game taking a cross from Rosonke and sliding it past GB goalkeeper Nastacia Behle to the low left corner.

In the 16th minute, Green Bay got the equalizer as Hannah Kernen sent in a blast from 25 yards out which Stephanie Bukovec was able to get an outstretched hand on but not prevent from going in.

In the second half, Sieja and Gurovski connected on the game-winner in the 76th minute. Sieja held the ball getting the defenders to over commit and passed it up to an open Gurovski. She then dribbled in deep down the right side and, from a difficult angle, connected on a low shot back across the goal putting it past Behle giving Oakland the 2-1 win.

Vaparaiso 1, Cleveland State 0 (OT)
The Valparaiso women’s soccer team set a new record for the longest unbeaten streak in program history Saturday evening, and more importantly moved to 2-0-0 in Horizon League play as a golden goal in the 93rd minute from sophomore Robin Wenzel (Woodstock, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) gave the Crusaders a 1-0 win at Cleveland State.

The Crusaders have now won three consecutive matches and own a 5-0-4 record in their last nine matches, surpassing the 2006 team’s stretch of eight straight wins for the longest undefeated streak all-time at Valpo.  This season is also the first in program history in which the Crusaders have lost just once in their first ten matches.

"I thought the game was a classic Horizon League competition," said Crusader head coach John Marovich.  "The energy was good on both sides of the ball, and I thought that Cleveland State did some very nice things getting forward with some creative players, which really challenged our group."

For the fifth time this season, Valpo and its opponent played through 90 minutes even - for the fourth time playing two full halves of scoreless soccer.  But for the first time, this game would not end in a draw, as the Crusaders needed less than three minutes to find the back of the net.  Sophomore April Cronin (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) won the ball in the midfield and hit a through ball forward.  Wenzel ran onto it, beating CSU goalkeeper Sarah Wood to the ball, and finished inside the far post for the golden goal, giving Valpo the three points.

The Vikings pushed forward early, throwing three shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the game, but redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sydney Galvez-Daley (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick [Creighton]) stopped all three efforts to keep the game scoreless.  From there, Valpo gained control, as they would out-shoot the Vikings in the first half 7-3 and earn six corner kicks, but the game entered halftime scoreless.  Shots were closer to even in the second half, as CSU held a slight 6-5 advantage while the Crusaders had five more corner kicks, but neither team could find the back of the net as the game went to extra time.

"I thought our side stepped up after the first 10-15 minutes and really settled into the game the rest of the first half," said Marovich.  "We got some good chances and earned a lot of corners, which speaks to the attacking mentality we've had recently.  Cleveland State made some adjustments in the second half, which we had to adjust to and figure out how to attack differently.  Towards the end of the half, I felt like we were able to combine better out of the middle of the park, and that's how our overtime goal ended up originating - winning a ball in the midfield and figuring out how to combine and get it forward."

At the end of the night, Valpo held a 13-9 edge in shots and placed seven on goal to the Vikings’ four.  Galvez-Daley made four saves for her seventh clean sheet of the season, already tied for fifth-most in a single season in program history.  Wood stopped six shots for Cleveland State.

"It's hard to single anybody out tonight, as the team as a whole competed extremely well," said Marovich.  "I thought everyone, whether a starter or coming off the bench, had a real hand in tonight's victory.  I'm proud of our group, because going on the road and coming home with three points in a Horizon League game is a big deal."

Wright State 2, Detroit 0
The Wright State women's soccer team scored two goals in a 2:18 span in the first half and made that stand up for a 2-0 Horizon League victory over Detroit Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Freshman Stevee Hazel gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead at the 37:02 mark of the first half with her second goal of the season and junior Kalee Thompson followed with an insurance goal just 2:18 later, her first goal of the season.

WSU led 18-8 in shots and 6-2 in corner kicks.  Junior goalkeeper Halle Pyle recorded her second shutout of the season and the third for the team overall as she gathered in three saves.

Youngstown State 3, Milwaukee 2 (2OT)
Sophomore Kathy Baquero scored her fourth goal of the year less than a minute into the second overtime to give the Youngstown State women's soccer team a 3-2 win over Horizon League preseason favorite Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Penguins improve to 5-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in the Horizon League while the Panthers fall to 4-7 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League.

Senior Chelsey Haney scored a goal and was credited with an assist on the game-winning goal, and junior Katie Hohmann scored a goal. Baquero and sophomore Tyesha Kizer each recorded an assist on Haney's goal.

The Penguins twice overcame a one-goal deficit in the second half to force overtime. After senior goalkeeper Jackie Podolsky was injured just 14 seconds into the first overtime, sophomore Katie Montgomery posted two critical saves to force a second extra period. Montgomery recorded her second victory of the season.

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead when Morgan LaPlant raced through the Penguins defense and drilled a shot into the left corner of the goal at the 29:34 mark of the match.

Ten minutes into the second half, Baquero centered a pass into an open area in the Panthers' penalty box. Haney beat Milwaukee goalkeeper Paige Lincicum to the ball and forced a shot into the net to tie the match, 1-1, at the 55:52 mark.

Milwaukee answered when Krissy Dorre took a pass from Kelly Lewers and drove down the left of the box and ripped a tough shot into the right corner to put the Panthers up, 2-1, at the 68:03 mark.

Six minutes later, Hohmann lofted a cross toward the center of the box that bounced over Lincicum's outstretched arms and into the goal to tie the match for the second time, 2-2, at the 74:13 mark.
