Valparaiso University men’s basketball junior Alec Peters picked up a prestigious honor late Monday afternoon, as he was awarded men’s college basketball National Player of the Week honors by CBSSports.com following his trio of stellar performances. Peters becomes the first Crusader in program history to earn the weekly award from CBS Sports.

Peters took his standout junior campaign to another level last week, averaging 21 points and 11.7 rebounds per game on 65.5% field goal shooting. Peters recorded double-doubles in all three games, matching his career high with 14 rebounds in the win over Oakland and scoring 32 points – the second-best effort of his career – in Sunday’s victory against Detroit, which clinched the outright Horizon League regular season title for the Crusaders. Also against the Titans, Peters moved into the top-10 in Crusader history in career scoring.

Peters, who earlier in the day earned Horizon League Player of the Week honors from the league office and from College Sports Madness, joins a prestigious group of players who have been named CBSSports.com National Player of the Week this year – a group which includes Buddy Hield, Grayson Allen, Denzel Valentine, Jarrod Uthoff and Brice Johnson. Following his three games last week, Peters currently ranks eighth nationally in Ken Pomeroy’s Offensive Rating (>20% of possessions used), ahead of players such as Valentine, Johnson and Tyler Ulis.
