INDIANAPOLIS -- Valparaiso’s Julian Smith (Chicago, Ill.) and Loyola’s James McLachlan (Wymondham, England) have been named the Horizon League Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week for the week of April 23 - 29.
Smith, who leads the Horizon League in the the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, competed at the Purdue Open over the weekend. His 100m time of 11.01 was good for first place, despite a headwind. The sophomore has won the 100m dash in all five outdoor meets he has competed in.
McLachlan competed at the prestigious Drake Relays in the long jump. He posted a season-best mark of 7.37m (24-2.50) to finish in seventh place. The distance stands atop the Horizon League rankings this season.
Valparaiso and Loyola will be back in action this weekend at the Horizon League Championships in Wauwatosa, Wis. Action starts on Friday morning (May 4) at 9 a.m.
