Women’s Soccer Results (Sept. 2)
Wright State 1, Eastern Kentucky 1 (2OT)

INDIANAPOLIS – Wright State was the lone Horizon League team to earn a result on Sunday, as League teams came up on the wrong side of the ledger during the day.
Wright State 1, Eastern Kentucky 1 (2OT)
Wright State rebounded from a slow start to tie Eastern Kentucky, 1-1, on Sunday.
Wright State (2-1-3) fell behind in the ninth minute, when Kaylynn Brown capitalized on an opportunity in front to put the Colonels ahead.
The Raiders would get the better run of play, though, building until Ashley Miltko struck midway through the first half. The sophomore forward connected on a shot 25 yards out from the left side of the net that went over the goalkeeper’s head.
The match stayed tied the rest of the way despite the Raiders outshooting EKU, 9-4, in the second half and in overtime. Junior goalkeeper Brooke McCurdy tallied three saves for WSU.
UMKC 2, Green Bay 0
Green Bay split its two matches of the SIU Edwardsville Tournament, falling in the finale to UMKC, 2-0.
The teams were scoreless for nearly 40 minutes, until UMKC’s Taylor Bare broke free of the Green Bay (1-4-0) defense and beat a charging Katy Pilarzyk to net the match’s first goal.
Bare scored nine minutes into the second half to provide the final margin.
Northern Illinois 3, Loyola 0
Wrapping a five-match road trip, Loyola was shut out at Northern Illinois, 3-0.
Only three minutes into the match, Loyola (1-4-0) found itself trailing, as Northern Illinois got on the scoreboard after a corner kick led to a Corinne Frankenberg goal.
Loyola saw a chance to come back in the 23rd minute, earning a free kick off a handball by the Huskies. Tricia Stonebraker’s kick was deflected by Northern Illinois, passing just high of the crossbar.
Five minutes later, a cross by Frankenberg just in front of the goal left Monica Gonyo stretching to swat away the ball, setting Shelbi Johnson to follow-up and extend the Huskies' lead 2-0.
NIU would continue its pressure in the second half; in the 64th minute Sara Spaulding brought Gonyo out of goal, launching the ball in the net for a 3-0 score.
Iowa 3, Valparaiso 1
The Valparaiso women's soccer team got a 75thminute goal from Luisa Desario, but it only served as a late consolation tally, as the Crusaders fell by a 3-1 count to host Iowa.
Valparaiso (2-2-1) played through the first 45 minutes even in shot attempts with Iowa, as both sides registered eight shots apiece in the first half. But it was the Hawkeyes who went into the break with a 2-0 advantage on the scoreline. Melanie Pickert struck a free kick from 25 yards out that went in the upper 90 off the post in the 5th minute to give Iowa the early 1-0 lead, and Cloe Lacasse added a second goal in the 24th minute after a Crusader turnover in the defensive end. The Crusaders poured the pressure on in the final five minutes of the half, recording four shots, but could not push one into the back of the net.
The second half saw the Crusaders chasing the game for the most part, as Iowa out-shot Valpo, 17-3. The Hawkeyes added their third goal in the 63rdminute, as Dana Dalrymple converted an effort inside the six-yard box off a feed from Jade Grimm. Desario snatched the consolation goal in the 75thminute, gaining possession following an Iowa turnover and beating goalkeeper Hannah Clark.
For the game, the Crusaders tallied 11 shots, four of which were on goal, while Iowa had 25 efforts, 11 on frame. Kristen Manski matched her career high with eight saves.
Canisius 3, Cleveland State 0
Despite holding the edge in shots and corner kicks, Cleveland State could not find the back of the net in a 3-0 setback to Canisius.
Cleveland State (2-3-0) outshot the host Griffins, 19-12, and held a 7-2 edge in corner kicks, but Canisius connected on 3-of-8 shots on goal in the match.
Brooke Bandazian gave Canisius the lead in the 39th minute, while Brianna Smith extended the lead to two 15 minutes into the second half. Brittany Bowen’s goal in the 80th minute sealed the result.
Vickie Havas and Taylor Vidovic each had five shots for the Vikings.
