Women Roll to 92-55 Win on Education and Hoops Day-- Box Score
The Wright State women's basketball team shot 53 percent for the game, 57 percent in the first half, in rolling to a 92-55 win over Youngstown State on Education and Hoops Day Thursday afternoon at WSU's Nutter Center.
YSU rallied from an early 9-2 deficit to tie the game at 11 on a Jenna Hirsch three with 14:16 remaining in the first half, only to see the Raiders go in front for good on a Breanna Stucke three followed by a Tay'ler Mingo jumper.
Three Mingo steals resulting in layups for the senior guard extended the lead to 26-16 and a later 22-6 run, including six from Tayler Stanton, helped give Wright State a 48-27 halftime advantage. Read more
YSU Drops into the Pack in Conference Standings with Loss at Wright State-- Box Score
Fairborn, Ohio -- Wright State flexed its offensive muscles and remained in sole possession of second place in the Horizon League standings with a 92-55 victory over the Youngstown State women's basketball team on Thursday afternoon at the Nutter Center.
YSU, which beat Wright State 75-70 two weeks ago and could have moved into a tie for second with a victory, drops to 15-6 overall and 4-4 in Horizon League play. The Raiders are now 17-5 overall and 6-2 in the conference, one game back of league-leading Green Bay.
YSU's Heidi Schlegel scored 14 of YSU's 27 first-half points, and she finished the game with 18 despite playing just nine minutes in the second half. The senior moved into eighth place on the school's all-time scoring list, surpassing Athletics Hall of Famers Brianne Kenneally and Liz Hauger. Schlegel is up to 1,485 points in her career. Read more
Seward’s Career-High 28 Not Enough As Titans Fall To Valparaiso-- Box Score
DETROIT (2/5/2015) -- Freshman Darianne Seward netted a career-high 28 points, but it wasn't enough as the Titans were upended by the Valparaiso Crusaders, 74-68, on Thursday night at Calihan Hall.
Seward also added six rebounds and two steals. Redshirt sophomore Rosanna Reynolds posted 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds and senior Ellisha Crosby tallied 11 points and sophomore Haleigh Ristovski had eight. Read more
Crusaders Put It All Together in Detroit-- Box Score
What began as an intriguing battle between two budding freshmen blossomed into a thorough team effort from the Crusaders Thursday night. Valpo manufactured a 74-68 victory over the Titans in Motor City thanks in part to three players finishing in double figures.
Freshman Dani Franklin (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/George Washington) racked up her third 20-point outpouring since December 30th while senior Jessica Carr (Arcadia, Ind./Hamilton Heights) had a perfect shooting night (3-3 FG, 2-2 3-pointers) as part of a 12-point contest.
Titan guard Rosanna Reynolds helped Detroit seize the first noticeable margin of the evening. Her jumper at the 12-minute mark put UDM ahead 14-7. The Crusaders utilized a balanced offensive onslaught over the next four minutes, countering with a 15-2 run. Freshman Anne Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) tied the game at 16 apiece with a three from the right wing, and Franklin's first triple of the tilt put the Brown and Gold ahead 19-16. A Sharon Karungi (Kampala, Uganda/[Northern Oklahoma College]) jumper put a bow on top of the Crusader surge. Read more
