Wright State senior outfielder Ryan Fucci was selected by Seattle Saturday in the Major League Baseball draft. He was drafted by the Mariners in the 25th round with the 747th pick.
Fucci (Lexington, KY/Tates Creek), a First Team All-Horizon League selection in 2016, hit .326 with a team-best 11 home runs, 64 RBI and 26 stolen bases. He finished first in the Horizon League in home runs, RBI and stolen bases, second in total bases (124), fourth in slugging percentage (.525), fifth in runs scored (51) and seventh in hits (77) and on-base percentage (.412).
In league play, Fucci hit .321 with six home runs and 34 RBI. In 20 games during May and June, he hit .400 (30 for 75) with five home runs, 27 RBI, 20 runs scored, six doubles and six stolen bases. During that stretch, he also had an .680 slugging percentage and a .472 on-base percentage.
Fucci was named to the NCAA Louisville Regional All-Tournament Team as he hit .333 with a team-high five RBI in four games.
In 2015, Fucci hit .288 with 15 home runs, 49 RBI, 48 runs scored, 15 doubles and 11 stolen bases. He was selected to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team as he drove in a team-best eight runs in hitting .429.
Fucci is the fifth Raider drafted this weekend. On Friday, junior catcher Sean Murphy was selected by Oakland in the third round with the 83rd overall pick and senior pitcher Jesse Scholtens was chosen by San Diego in the ninth round with the 264th pick. Earlier Saturday, junior shortstop Mitch Roman was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the 12th round with the 356th pick and junior pitcher Robby Sexton was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 14th round with the 418th pick. The five players drafted are a new program record.
