INDIANAPOLIS -- Wright State sophomore Eric Lynch (Bellbrook, Ohio) is the Horizon League Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while Oakland freshman Wes Mink (West Chester, Ohio) and Wright State senior Emeka Ononye (Richmond, ONT.) are the Co-Defensive Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5. Lynch collects the award for the second time this season.

Wright State (7-3-1, 2-1-0) shutout two League opponents this past week at Alumni Field. In the Wednesday mid-week match against Belmont, the Raiders defeated the Bruins, 3-0. Homecoming took place on campus Saturday while Wright State notched another League win over Milwaukee, 3-0, that evening.

Lynch led the Wright State offensive attack throughout the two games to total six points. Against the Bruins, he put the Raiders up 2-0 at the 32:40 mark on a straight-away shot just outside of the box. On Homecoming night, the sophomore played a role in each of the three goals for Wright State versus Milwaukee. He collected an assist on each of the team’s first two goals with one off of a free kick and the other from a corner. Lynch then placed the third goal in the low right corner of the net off of a long shot assisted by Peguy Ngatcha.

Ononye led the Raider defense to two shutout wins against conference opponents. While providing leadership on the back line, Wright State allowed no shots on-goal against Belmont and only seven versus Milwaukee. Ononye also aided in the squad’s offensive attack as he scored the first goal against the Panthers off of a free kick by Lynch. The goal marks his second on the year.

Oakland (2-5-1, 2-0-1) took the pitch for two conference games this past week with the Metro Series at Detroit on Wednesday and hosted Green Bay Saturday. In the first Metro Series meeting between the two squads, the Golden Grizzlies found a way to win in double-overtime against the Titans, 2-1. At the Oakland Soccer field a few days later, the Golden Grizzlies shutout the Phoenix, 2-0, to remain undefeated in League play.

Mink led Oakland in goal during the week and collected his first two wins of his career. The freshman held his ground in goal throughout two overtime periods against Detroit, making five saves in the victory. Coming off of a huge rivalry win, Mink shutout the Phoenix while making one save. The win, 2-0, over Green Bay marked his first-career shutout as goalkeeper for Oakland.

The Golden Grizzlies return to action Wednesday, October 8th as they host Ohio State with kick-off set for 7:00 p.m. EST. Wright State prepares to hit the road to take on Valparaiso Friday night in a key conference matchup beginning at 8:00 p.m. EST.
