Wright State baseball junior Mitch Roman is one of 54 players selected to the initial 2016 watch list for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award, it was announced on Thursday.
The award, sponsored by Mizuno, honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented as part of the annual Night of Champions celebration on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas.
Roman (Fishers, IN/Hamilton Southeastern) is currently among the Horizon League leaders in runs scored (26), hits (42), triples (3), walks (16) and stolen bases (17) while hitting .309 with a .391 on-base percentage. He has committed just six errors in 198 fielding chances this season and has been involved in 28 double plays in 36 games.
Roman was a First Team All-Horizon League honoree in 2015 as he hit .339 with a team-high 86 hits and added 41 RBI and 47 runs scored. He was also chosen to the league All-Tournament Team as he hit .429 with seven runs scored in four games as WSU claimed the championship and to the NCAA Champaign All-Regional Team as he hit .375 with three RBI and three runs scored as the Raiders finished second to host Illinois.
