Wright State junior pitcher Robby Sexton was selected by Boston Saturday in the Major League Baseball draft.  He was drafted by the Red Sox in the 14th round with the 418th pick.

Sexton (Pataskala, OH/Watkins Memorial) put together a solid season in his return from Tommy John surgery, going 7-3 with a 3.15 earned run average and 58 strikeouts in 74.1 innings pitched.  The seven wins tied him for sixth in the Horizon League while his ERA was sixth, the innings were eighth and the strikeouts tied for ninth.

Sexton struck out six in three innings in his season debut at Elon on February 20 and also fanned six in seven shutout innings against Cincinnati at the Joe Nuxhall Classic in Oxford, Ohio, on April 12, surrending just one hit and a walk.  He struck out six versus Oakland on April 29 and had seven strikeouts at UIC on May 20.

Sexton was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team as he threw 6.2 shutout innings to defeat Milwaukee in the winner's bracket final at Nischwitz Stadium on May 27, giving up just two hits while striking out a season-high eight.  He also picked up a win over Western Michigan in the NCAA Regionals at Louisville on June 4, allowing three runs in 6.2 innings with two strikeouts.

Sexton is the fourth Raider drafted this weekend.  On Friday, junior catcher Sean Murphy was selected by Oakland in the third round with the 83rd overall pick and senior pitcher Jesse Scholtens was chosen by San Diego in the ninth round with the 264th pick.  Earlier Saturday, junior shortstop Mitch Roman was picked by the Chicago White Sox in the 12th round with the 356th pick.  The four players drafted are a new program record, eclipsing the three selected in 2008.
