INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State senior Heidi Schlegel (Wapakoneta, Ohio) is the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Milwaukee’s Jenny Lindner (Niellsville, Wis.) is the Freshman of the Week for the week of Feb. 16-22 This is the second-straight weekly accolade for Schlegel and third of the season while Lindner garners her second honor.
Youngstown State (19-7, 8-5) competed in two games on the road this past weekend against Milwaukee and Valparaiso. On Thursday evening against the Panthers, the Penguins rallied on a late 11-point run to capture a 79-73 victory. The contest remained close with Milwaukee leading until the final 55 seconds in which Youngstown State took the lead for good after two made free throws. Over the weekend at the Athletics-Recreation Center, Youngstown State put up a strong second half to move past the Crusaders, 87-69. The Penguins led for all but less than a minute of the contest, and sealed the victory with a 14-2 run midway through the final 20 minutes.
Schlegel set a new school record for points scored in back-to-back road contests and tabbed the League’s highest scoring-game this season with 38 points at Milwaukee and Valparaiso, respectively. The senior scored six-straight points in the final three minutes versus Milwaukee and went 14-for-20 from the field during the game. She also posted eight rebounds and netted the two go-ahead free throws for the Penguins to grab the lead with less than a minute remaining. Against Valparaiso, Schlegel completed the game shooting 16-for-24 from the field and grabbing 11 rebounds to tab the double-double. Over the two contests, the senior tallied a .682 field goal percentage (30-of-44), .667 three-point field goal percentage (6-of-9) while averaging a near double-double of 38.0 points and 9.5 rebounds.
Milwaukee (8-16, 5-3) hosted Youngstown State on Thursday evening and fell to the Penguins in a close 79-73 loss. The Panthers fought back to take the lead after Youngstown State posted a 10-point second half advantage and was ahead by as much as five points in the closing minutes of the loss.
Lindner tabbed a career-high 25 points in the loss but played a vital role closing the scoring gap for the Panthers in the contest. The freshman went 8-for-13 from the field while netting five triples on seven attempts. Her three-point performance marks second-most by a freshman in program history and her scoring total of 25 points ranks third-most for a freshman in a Panthers’ jersey. In addition to scoring, Lindner also grabbed five rebounds while adding an assist, steal and a block for Milwaukee.
Milwaukee takes the road to face UIC on Wednesday, February 25 for a 8:00 p.m. ET tip-off before hosting Cleveland State on Saturday afternoon. Youngstown State has a mid-week bye and will return to the court on Saturday to host League-leading Green Bay in a 4:30 p.m. ET contest. All games are set to be streamed on ESPN3, respectively.

Tesha Buck, Green Bay (G, So.): Led Green Bay in scoring this past week averaging 15.0 ppg while also ranking second on the team in rebounds with 6.5 rpg.
Ruvanna Campbell, UIC (F, Jr.): Led UIC with nine points against Green Bay while also adding 13 rebounds in the contest.
Imani Gordon, Cleveland State (F, Sr.): Slotted her fourth double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds versus Detroit and currently ranks 13th all-time in program history with 1,209 points.
Ashley Green, Milwaukee (G/F, Sr.): Recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 14 rebounds versus Youngstown State. During the contest, she tied the school record for offensive rebounds with 10.
Rosanna Reynolds, Detroit (G, So.): Posted her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Cleveland State. Tallied her fifth 20-point contest with 26 points against Oakland, 17 of which came in the second half.
Tayler Stanton, Wright State (F, Sr.): Scored 11 points and grabbed 15 rebounds against Cleveland State and netted 15 points and tallied 14 rebounds versus Oakland to tab two double-doubles on the week.
Top Freshmen of the Week:
Indiya Benjamin, Youngstown State (G): Averaged 7.5 points and 5.0 assists against Milwaukee and Valparaiso this past week. Against Valparaiso, Benjamin scored 14 points, dished out seven assists, had two steals and a block.
Darianne Seward, Detroit (G): Scored 21 points against Cleveland State and posted eight points, three rebounds and four assists at Oakland.
Jasmyn Walker, Valparaiso (F): Posted two double-doubles in games against Green Bay and Youngstown State. For the week, averaged 12.5 ppg and 11.0 rpg to total sixth double-doubles in League play so far this season.
