INDIANAPOLIS - Youngstown State senior guard DeAndre Mays has been named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 10.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Mays averaged 22.5 points and three rebounds in the Penguins' homecourt victories over UIC (76-67) and Loyola (71-67) last week. He scored a team-high 15 points against the Flames Thursday and then came back with a career-best 30 versus the Ramblers on Saturday.

For the week, Mays shot 50 percent (14-of-28) from the field, including 6-for-9 from three-point range, and 11-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Mays ranks 12th in the League in scoring with a team-leading 13.2 points per game.

Youngstown State (7-8, 2-4) will hit the road this week for games at Valparaiso (6-11, 1-4) on Thursday and NR/#22 Butler (12-4, 5-0) on Saturday.
